I had a minimal but memorable experience as a voice and television actor in Vancouver, after training toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Simon Fraser University. You might remember me as the guy with no lines who listened uninterrupted to his music player in a road trip Energizer commercial, or the homophobe protest leader in the L-Word. Or you might not.
I was also co-founder of a sketch comedy troupe/short film production company called Genus Theatre, which produced a number of successful independent comedy shows over a three year span.
Most of our film catalog is available on YouTube.
screenwriting
One of my more recent creative outlets has been screenwriting and script reading, and I consider myself a screenwriting enthusiast [this place reserved for "writer", someday soon]. Over the course of my work with Genus Theatre, twenty different live or film sketches of mine were performed, including The Newsprint Mafia, Blind Man, Fifteen Years, and Heritage Minute.
Recently, I’ve been taking advantage of workshops and programs offered by the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters, as well as Pilar Alessandra’s one-day Six Steps To a Screenplay seminar here in Vancouver.
For any folks out there who share this interest, I would definitely recommend Pilar’s podcast, called On The Page, which involves pointers from Pilar (a former Dreamworks script reader) and interviews with working writers. I also suggest subscribing to the podcast from Creative Screenwriting Magazine, featuring interviews with the writers of the latest hollywood releases.
And now, with Twitter, I’m a regular contributor to #scriptchat discussions. Follow me here.
